Chin Augmentation in Sacramento & Granite Bay

The chin is the primary focal point between the face and neck. When the chin is underdeveloped, the symmetry of the entire face can be thrown off balance. Patients who feel that their facial features are suffering from a weak chin can undergo chin augmentation surgery, a procedure that uses an implant, bone, or fat to create a more prominent chin.

Chin augmentation is a common procedure that addresses concerns caused by congenital conditions, age-related bone resorption, or facial trauma. An otherwise normal nose can appear larger when the chin lacks a firm structure, and an already pronounced nose can appear even bigger. Conversely, an overly prominent chin can make the nose appear too small and throw off the balance of the face. The goal of chin augmentation is to create a balanced, proportional relationship between the facial features.

Chin enhancement requires good judgment, experience, an aesthetic eye, and a keen understanding of facial anatomy. Dr. Scott Green, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Sacramento, has extensive skills, training, experience, and knowledge to accomplish optimal results. Dr. Green understands the precision and delicacy required for chin augmentation and specializes in facial rejuvenation techniques to help patients achieve their desired aesthetic results.

What Is the Chin Augmentation Process?

Dr. Green performs chin augmentation surgery on an outpatient basis with local or general anesthesia. This process helps ensure comfort and safety for the patient during the procedure. The patient and surgeon preferences determine the best option for your conditions.

Depending on your preferences and desired results, your surgeon will either use bone or fat from another part of your body or a synthetic implant to create the new chin. An incision is made either under your chin or along your lower lip. The implant or bone then gets placed into a pocket around the chin bone. Usually, tape is applied to the chin after surgery to help minimize swelling and discomfort during recovery. Sutures are usually removed between five and seven days.

Every chin augmentation gets fully customized with tailored implants or bone and fat grafting to suit your needs. Chin implants conform to the bone and are usually undetectable. The implant is generally sutured to the chin bone or attached with titanium surgical screws. The contour of your chin, neck, and jawline can all be improved through this procedure.

Addressing Your Concerns

Recovery

As with any cosmetic surgery, please follow your surgeon’s post-operative care instructions carefully, take your medications and vitamins, eat and drink according to the directions, and stop tobacco usage. You may experience swelling and bruising for the first few weeks, as well as numbness for up to three months. Most patients resume working after one week. Your surgeon may advise sleeping face-up with your head elevated for the first one or two weeks, along with wearing a chin brace to help your tissues and implants heal in the best position possible and prevent shifting in the first few weeks of recuperation. Heavy, strenuous activities or exercise should be postponed until you have fully recovered, which may take up to four weeks.

Scars

Incisions are made in inconspicuous locations and are usually concealed by your natural chin contours. Most scars fade with time.

Cost

The individual cost of your procedure can vary depending on what the procedure entails and which techniques are utilized. After your initial consultation, Dr. Green can provide an accurate cost estimate.

Pain

Any discomfort associated with your recuperation can be alleviated with prescription medications and cold compresses.
