There are two types of breast implants: Saline and Silicone. Saline Breast Implants are filled with a salt water solution, while Silicone Breast Implants are filled with silicone gel. Each implant has its positive and negatives and for most people the decision is one of personal preference in how they look and feel. Saline Implants can be used in women 18 years of age and older, while Silicone Implants can only be used in women age 22 and older. Both Saline and Silicone implants are FDA-approved. Silicone Implants are said to feel more natural, and while Saline Implants could collapse (the saline would be absorbed and then expelled naturally by the body), a Silicon Implant won’t collapse but the gel may leak within the implant shell or escape into the breast implant pocket.
